In 1912, construction was completed on the new Monclova School, replacing the one room schoolhouse that was formerly on the corner of Lose and Monclova Roads. The opening of the new school was hailed as a triumph for this small community. With its lovely architecture and grand style, the Monclova School would be home to area students for over 60 years, until 1974 when the new elementary school was built and the Monclova School was closed. This once proud building was left to deteriorate for nearly 25 years.

In 1997, through efforts of the newly formed Monclova Historical Foundation, along with support from the Monclova Township Trustees and the community, the drive begins to renovate the old school. What looked to be a crumbling old school was deemed to be structurally sound and well worth saving. What to do with this great old landmark? A community center for people of all ages seemed to be the perfect answer. Thus began an intensive drive to renovate and preserve the building. Through private donations and fund-raising events, money was raised to renovate the entire East Wing and the main floor of the West Wing.

Today, many activities are already taking place in the Community Center, and more are being planned and implemented. Banquet and meeting facilities are available for rent to the general public for wedding receptions, bridal and baby showers, birthday parties, meetings, workshops, seminars and more. Children's and youth activities include the YMCA Child Care Center and Boy and Girl Scout meetings. Senior citizens are served through the Monclova - Anthony Wayne Area Senior Center and Body Recall exercise program (presented by St. Luke's Hospital). Community Education classes are offered in a variety of areas.

As a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, the Monclova Historical Foundation appreciates the support of members of the community. With your help, we will continue to be able to provide the residents of Monclova Township with a first-class community center! If you are interested in volunteering your time, or becoming a member of the Historical Foundation, please contact the office at (419) 861-1336.
